Alpha Release Date for Airwave
Written by: TheDevBird
It's been a few months since my last post, and for good reason. I spent a ton of time continuing to rebuild Airwave from the ground-up, getting it in a playable state before even teasing a release date. But now, most of the work has been completed, and Airwave will be ready to release in alpha very soon. Let's talk about that.
State of Airwave
Long story short, it's playable! All of the hard work paid off. Airwave now supports almost all the major features it did before the rewrite (it was rewritten for Bevy, see our post). You can see it in all its glory in our recent livestream.
In the stream, Leon and I spent two hours testing both ground and air, making sure everything worked without issue. There were some bugs we ran into in the stream, but I had squashed them all right after the stream ended so we were the only ones to run into them (lucky us, haha).
What Airwave looks like now:

Release date (alpha)
Also mentioned in the play-test stream here (and here), Airwave will be released in alpha sometime this July (2026). I wish I could give a better time frame, but there's still a lot of cracks to fill and mundane things to set-up (and get right). If I need to delay the launch, which is unlikely, or if I feel it's going to be much later in July than expected, I'll make another blog post noting the delay. That said, I don't see anything that would need us to delay the release past July.
The plan moving forward
Leon and I will continue to fill in the cracks, squash the bugs, and get the game polished enough for an alpha release (it's first one!). While we do that, I'll keep posting updates to our socials. I plan on releasing a few more streams to our YouTube channel, showcasing any new functionality we decide to throw in and to discuss further plans ad-hoc.
Once we publish the alpha release, you'll find it on our Itch page. We'll post and update here (the blog) and in our Discord server once it goes live.
Alongside that, I'll publish a refreshed demo and walk-through video series given the new interface and some new behaviors. I'll also update our docs so you can find all relevant information there. Both the video and the docs will go out before the release is published to Itch.
Fin.
